Joseph Vellone is a Principal in Grassi’s International Tax Services practice based in New York City. He has over 30 years of tax and accounting experience encompassing corporate, partnership, and international taxation including cross-border transfer pricing. Joe is experienced with the tax affairs of US and non-US based businesses ranging from multinational corporations to closely held businesses relating to tax planning, tax accounting, tax compliance and tax controversy matters. He represents clients in audits and appeals before the IRS, including transfer pricing matters which encompass advanced pricing agreements and competent authority agreements. He is noted for his creative solutions to complex tax matters as well as advising clients on minimizing tax liabilities and enhancing profits and operational processes. The clients Joe serves encompass a variety of largely international transactions, involving corporate acquisitions and mergers, internal restructurings, business formations and joint ventures. His scope also includes structuring offshore transactions, implementing inbound and outbound tax structures utilizing tax favored holding companies, blocker entities, and transparent entities.
Prior to joining Grassi, Joe held senior leadership positions at a Fortune 200 global publicly traded company and a Big 4 firm in New York City. He has authored numerous international tax and M&A articles including articles published in the Tax Adviser; Journal of Accountancy; the Practical Accountant, and many others.
Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Fordham University where he graduated Beta Alpha Psi and a Master of Business Administration degree in Taxation from Pace University where he graduated with distinction. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York and Connecticut. He is an adjunct tax professor at a New York City university graduate tax program. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Taxation Division and the USA Branch of the International Fiscal Association.
