David Rottkamp Named NY Council of Nonprofits Board Chair
The New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON), a statewide membership organization representing over 3,100 organizations, is pleased to announce the election of David M. Rottkamp, CPA, as incoming Board Chair for 2017. David is the Audit Partner, Not-for-Profit Practice Leader and the Partner-In-Charge of the New York City Office of Grassi & Co., the 70th largest accounting firm in the U.S. specializing in accounting, auditing, tax, technology, and business consulting services.
David has served on the NYCON board of directors since 2012 and in 2014 was elected Treasurer and served as Vice Chair from 2015 through 2016. In David’s current role as Board Chair he will lead the board in guiding NYCON’s growth-oriented strategic plan, which includes the integration and alignment of the three subsidiary corporations – Council Services Plus, Innovative Charitable Initiatives, and Governance Matters – as well as the integral boardnetUSA.org program.
“What I am most excited about as the Board Chair for NYCON is being a part of and leading the celebration of our 90th Anniversary of service to Nonprofits across the state of New York,” said Rottkamp. “NYCON is at the forefront of helping nonprofits achieve their goals, visions and missions by providing technical assistance, policy advocacy, collaboration and value-added services that have led to our members’ successes! We address what is most important to our members, allowing them to be the very best they can be!”
“The next few years are going to be particularly challenging for the nonprofit community given anticipated changes in the funding and political landscape,” says Doug Sauer, NYCON’s CEO. “David brings an extraordinarily high level of energy, expertise and connections to NYCON and our members. He has shown to be an exemplary leader both in his professional life and in his volunteer work with nonprofits. Those leadership skills will help the board to build NYCON’s capacity to meet the policy and professional business needs of our members and the community as a whole,” he observes.
David has dedicated his professional career and personal life to serving the nonprofit community and has professionally advised many successful not-for-profit organizations on financial reporting systems, implementation of the new IRS Form 990 guidelines, internal control reviews, developing financial forecasts, and board governance. He is an active member of the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA), where he is Immediate Past Chair of the Not-for-Profit committee and several of its subcommittees, including government funding sources and cost reporting updates.
David also serves on the National Board of Directors of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and is Chair of their audit committee. Locally, David also serves on the board of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Long Island Chapter, as immediate past Chairman along with serving on several of its committees.
