Since the IRS announced that taxpayers would have until May 17, 2021 to file their individual 2020 income tax returns, many states have decided to grant the same relief for state individual income tax returns.
New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania are among the states that have conformed to the May 17, 2021 deadline. This extension does not apply to trust or business filings.
Disaster Relief in Texas
Individuals and businesses in Texas affected by the severe winter storms have until June 15, 2021 to file income and other types of federal tax returns. Affected taxpayers include individuals who live, and businesses whose principal place of business is located, in Texas as well as taxpayers whose records are there that are necessary to meet a deadline.
This extension applies to most tax returns, including individual, corporate, partnership, S corporation, trusts and estates, tax-exempt organizations, employment and certain excise tax returns that have an original or extended due date after February 11, 2021 and before June 15, 2021.
