Brendan Toolin is a Partner at Grassi and is responsible for planning and conducting audits and reviews of nonprofit organizations along with the preparation of their information and tax returns. He has extensive experience with Single Audits under the Uniform Guidance as well as with the Massachusetts Uniform Financial Report (UFR).
Brendan’s nonprofit experience includes working with organizations such as community action agencies, social service providers, professional membership organizations and their related foundations, land and conservation trusts, and many other charitable organizations.
Brendan is also responsible for planning and conducting audits and reviews of small businesses along with the preparation of their tax returns and the income tax returns of their owners and shareholders. During his career, he has worked with small businesses in various industries such as advertising, insurance, retail, technology, real estate development, and government contracting.
Brendan is also responsible for the training and development of the firm’s professional staff.
Before joining Grassi, Brendan worked at a top 30 accounting firm in Massachusetts for more than 20 years. The diversity of his experience allows him to see a client’s complete financial picture and effectively and efficiently assist clients in all aspects of their financial needs.
Brendan previously served as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee for a local nonprofit arts organization for four years. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MassCPAs).
Brendan is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics accounting from the College of the Holy Cross.
