Matthew McCullough, EA is a Tax Controversy Principal at Grassi. He works across a variety of industries including but not limited to Construction, Architecture & Engineering, Manufacturing & Distribution, Real Estate, and Not-For Profit.
Matthew is proficient in tax audits for the IRS, New York State, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, Florida, Texas, and many others. His areas of specialty include sales tax audits, franchise tax audits, corporate tax audits, individual tax audits, Department of Labor audits, and NYSIF audits. Matthew and his team also conduct SALT nexus reviews for taxpayers to ensure they are in compliance with the new Wayfair rules.
Prior to joining Grassi, Matthew spent four years in private industry as a Tax Manager. Matthew was also in the Corporate Tax Department at a Big Four firm for five years as well. Matthew was responsible for all functions of the tax department.
As a Tax Controversy Principal, Matthew successfully assists clients with serious tax issues and IRS notification issues and has significantly helped reduce their financial liabilities.
Matthew is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA), and the National Organization of Enrolled Agents. Matthew lead’s the firm’s effort in the donation of toys to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Toy drive.
Matthew received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Fairfield University. During his time at Fairfield, Matthew was a member of the Accounting Honor Society, Irish Society as well as a member of the Connecticut Society of CPAs.
