The New York State Charities Bureau is providing relief to all registered charities through an automatic six-month extension of the deadlines for filing their CHAR 500 and annual financial reports. Furthermore, any nonprofit organization with a filing deadline (including the six-month extension) that falls after February 15, 2020 will be given an additional six-month filing extension.
The Charities Bureau is the latest governmental entity to provide relief to nonprofits in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The IRS confirmed that the federal tax filing and payment deadline extensions announced last week include all Form 990-series annual information returns (including Forms 990-T, 990-EZ and 990-N), which are now deferred until July 15, 2020.
